The EMIO initiates the de-excitation process via the EXTB board. A Hall-effect current sensor—mounted within the air gap of a circular steel core—is utilized to detect the field current. EDEX boards are categorized into two types: the first group is designed for SCR-based de-excitation, while the second group is intended for diode-based de-excitation. The EXTB controls the main circuit breaker or contactor within the field circuit, and the activation of auxiliary contacts triggers immediate de-excitation.


Core Functionality:


⚡ De-excitation Control: Dissipates the energy stored in the excitation inductance during generator shutdown. It enables SCR triggering for de-excitation, provides feedback on the conduction status of the discharge circuit, and ensures continued normal operation during power interruptions through a voltage-holding mechanism.

 

🧲 A Hall-effect conduction sensor is mounted within the air gap of a circular steel core and employs two independent sensing circuits to detect the magnetic field generated by the field discharge current flowing through the thyristor.
